From Subsea to Onshore Control Room in Real Time
How data from autonomous vehicles at depth can now be streamed via a wireless broadband grid on the seafloor
Hydromea’s LUMA™ subsea wireless broadband lets you stream high‑volume data from subsea sensors and autonomous underwater vehicles directly into your cloud environment in real time. By leveraging existing field infrastructure, operators cut vessel days, shrink emissions and make faster, better‑informed integrity decisions without adding new cables across the subsea field.

Why it matters for operators
Lower OPEX
Reduce vessel days and campaign‑based inspections by shifting to continuous, exception‑based monitoring driven by live subsea data.
Improved HSSE
Keep more people out of the offshore environment, reduce weather‑dependent operations and intervene earlier with better situational awareness.
Lower CO₂ footprint
Avoid unnecessary mobilisations and cut emissions by handling more inspection, verification and triage from shore using real‑time feeds.
Higher uptime and asset reliability
Spot issues sooner, shorten decision cycles from weeks to hours and address problems before they become unplanned outages.
How it works

Step 1: AUV arrives at the asset with a WLAN hotspot
An Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) departs its docking station with a mission to perform an inspection or intervention task at your asset. As it approaches the asset, AUV enters into the LUMA™ wireless broadband coverage zone.
Step 2: Connect through a LUMA™ wireless hotspot

LUMA™ network creates a high‑bandwidth subsea WLAN around the asset. Once within this zone, the AUV hand shakes with the control room onshore and can be taken over by a remote pilot to perform a live inspection.

Step 3: Perform live intervention remotely from onshore
Because LUMA™ is plugged into the field’s existing communications backbone, data is streamed from the AUV into your cloud environment and operational dashboards live with low latency, turning the AUV into a ROV without any tethers and vessel support.
