Successful AUV measurement campaigns using adaptive behaviors and customs sensors

Hydromea carried out a series of successful measurement campaigns deploying a Vertex AUV in several Swiss lakes during the summer and fall of 2017. These campaigns were part of a research collaboration between Hydromea and the Ecole Polytechnique Lausanne, Switzerland (EPFL).

Hydromea’s VERTEX AUV is featured on the cover of the October/November issue of Unmanned Systems Technology. The issue contains a 6 page article describing the AUV as well as the DiskDrive thruster and the LUMA 250LP modem.

Hydromea receives large order for its LUMA 250LP modem

Hydromea just received a large order for its LUMA 250LP optical modem. The customer is Germany’s Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI). In order to verify the technical specifications and ensure that the modem can be easily integrated into AWI’s infrastructure, an extensive set of tests was carried out at AWI in Bremerhaven which included a depth rating test to 6000m. The LUMA 250LP’s very low power consumption and compact size make it particularly well suited for long term deployments on battery-powered infrastructure. Hydromea will be demonstrating the modem at Ocean Business 2017 in Southampton.

Hydromea’s VERTEX AUVs provided the first 3D map ever of water quality parameters of Lago Cadagno in Ticino, Switzerland

One of Hydromea’s VERTEX AUVs provided the first 3D map ever of water quality parameters of Lago Cadagno in Ticino, Switzerland. The AUV was fitted with a complete EXO2 sonde from YSI measuring a multitude of parameters such as temperature, oxygen, turbidity and Chlorophyll-A in parallel. In addition to the EXO2 sonde, the AUV also carried a custom fast temperature sensor developed by Hydromea, capable of measuring temperature with a sub milli-Kelvin resolution at a rate of 250 samples per second.
