Great collaboration between Hydromea and Evologics at BTS 2018 in Croatia

During the annual “Breaking the Surface” event in Biograd na Moru, Croatia, Hydromea collaborated with Evologics to demonstrate the capabilities of a combined optical-acoustic modem.

The annual “Breaking the Surface” event in Biograd na Moru, Croatia, is a great venue that combines academic research in underwater robotics with hands-on demonstrations. This time Hydromea partnered with the leading developer of underwater acoustic communication equipment, Evologics to demonstrate the capabilities of a combined optical-acoustic modem.

For the demonstration an Evologics-built Sonobot Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) navigated within a field of Evologics communication/navigation modems. It was able to then keep station on top of one of the modems which was augmented by Hydromea’s optical communication capability and download data stored within that modem.

In future applications an ROV or AUV fitted with an optical-acoustic modem could autonomously dive to a submerged data logger and then download the stored data through the fast optical link.
